Decreasing the gap between rich and poor is the best way to make a happy society for each other. In my opinion, although it may include some drawbacks, I largely agree with this opinion.
One major reason why the government should reduce the gap is this could strengthen social cohesion. When the gap between the rich and poor people are shortened, people tend to care about each other, so that all of the problems can be solved. And because everyone is more equal, people could feel more equal and treated fairly, which can create a happier and safer society. Moreover, the government can alleviate poverty to reduce the gap. When poverty is reduced, poor people would have a better life, which could create more opportunities for them. When the government starts to reduce the gap between rich people and poor people, homeless people and poor people will be able to change their life, which can have a chance to find a job and improve their lives. This could make them get more motivation to contribute to society.
On the other hand, there are some reasons why this is not a good idea. First of all, this could affect the government’s budget. When all of the amenities are free, the government needs to spend a lot of money on everything, which could put a financial pressure on them. This could lead to the government not having enough budget to upgrade the school facilities or pay higher salaries to teachers, which could decrease the quality of education. Secondly, this could reduce job satisfaction. When a society tries to make everything equal, this could remove the competition for each person, which could remove their satisfactions when working. This could lead to no motivation to work harder, and everyone could find it hard and feel really exhausted when working.
In conclusion, although affecting the government’s budget and reducing job satisfaction is why the government should not decrease the gap between rich and poor people, this still can strengthen social cohesion and alleviate poverty, which can make a good society for each other.
