Individualism, which is the an
ideology that emphasizes individual intrinsic values, has become popular in the modern society. This has sparked controversy about we whether this new trend in way of life can be beneficial for the community. From my personal standpoint, this topic is relatively sophisticated and individualism can both benefit and impair community.
On the one hand, one of the fundamental principles of individualism is that it endorses freedom. Living in an individualistic society, people can be free to raise their voices. express their opinions, and have the right to make their own decisions and pursue their own goals. In Western countries economic figures suggest that free societies as such have higher GPP per capita than others, indicating that freedom can stimulate economic growth. By this reasoning, it can be asserted that individualism may enhance the wealth of nations. Additionally, self-discovery and personal development is highly encourage in the philosophy of individualism, in that each individual should try to explore their own characteristics, abilities and desires so as to develop to their full potential, thereby reaching the peak destined for their life. And as everyone has the opportunity to be achieve their best life, society, as a whole, will flourish and prosper.
On the other hand, the be merits of an individualistic community can also be disadvantages also be disadvantages if we consider them from an alternate perspective. Individualism promotes freedom and the idea of free markets, compromising the control that the state holds over its society. Such a system can develop without notable restrictions but in times of market crash or economic recession, things are more susceptible to falling into chaos. Moreover, competition is an overarching feature of individualistic societies, and it does cause setbacks. Many disadvantaged or handicapped people encounter hardship trying to keep up with the rest of society, and without sufficient support from a restricted governing body, they are apt to fall behind. Besides, social bonds and relationships can be weakened due to individualism, harming the cohesion of a community.
In the final analysis, individualism profoundly impacts society community in many aspects. This ideology can be beneficial for not only the development of individuals but also that of society. Nonetheless, many problems can also be induced on a social structure following such principles, causing detriment to its unity.
