As societies develop, so does the variety of work opportunities. Today, career paths vary from working underwater to flying above the clouds. Even though limitless options are available, a considerable number of employees take positions they are not fond of or simply do not have the capacity to excel at. Experts are debating why a human being would spend their limited time on Earth working at a job they dislike. This essay will provide some insights and shed light on why this occurs.
Inflation, an inevitable part of today’s market, is driving prices higher. One reason people will take any job is to be able to continue paying the bills, provide food, and house their families. If a constant and regular income is not generated, many are forced into poverty. Therefore, some do not have the luxury to wait for the perfect job. For example, many famous actors, musicians, and athletes mention that prior to their successful careers, they had to maintain jobs they did not enjoy in order to keep a roof over their heads.
Human preferences change as they age. Hence, what someone might have enjoyed doing in their 20s might not necessarily be their preference in their 50s. Another perspective to this complexity could be a choice made at an earlier point in life. For instance, since I was a child, I imagined a doctor’s lifestyle would be exciting. From time to time, I believe it is; however, it is very stressful and time-consuming. Despite the fact that I would prefer a more relaxed lifestyle, I feel compelled to continue because I have invested time, effort, and money.
This phenomenon can lead to detrimental side effects such as depression and feeling unsatisfied with life. Therefore, different options should be considered before the development of complications.
Overall, there are many reasons leading people to be employed at a place where they don’t feel satisfaction. But I believe the most important is to consider resigning when the drawbacks outweigh the benefits.
