People who are capable of paying more than their counterparts often be treated in a better manner. It is sometimes argued that our era over-emphasizing the importance of assets and wealth, I completely agree with this statement.
There are several phenomena proving my stance. Firstly, society’s attitude to an individual usually depends on the figure in his bank account. Sales associates in retail stores and housing agents always prioritize the needs of the prospectives wearing luxury items, as they seem richer. Secondly, popular posts or reels from social media often promote materialism. For instance, there is a well-known slogan thrives in Tik Tok and Instagram recently, namely ‘I am looking for a man in finance, six-five, trust fund, blue eyes’, the requirement ‘finance’ and ‘trust fund’ for spouse reflected that females in our generation may be somehow instilled with materialistic thought. Finally, there are frequent comparison between neighbors. One may renovate his own house for vanity.
In stark contrast, the previous generation preferred living a simple life. The relationship and respects between humans were not based on their properties, but their bounding. The image of an ideal partner was not based on wealthiness, but personal feelings. At the same time, people were not that punctual among battling, no one would install a new swimming pool in his own house extravagantly for showing off.
In conclusion, people nowadays give too much importance to wealth and possessions, strongly reverse with humans in last century. We should censor whether any detrimental effects would be possibly compelled under such atmosphere.
