Nowadays, many individuals participate in extreme sports because they want to overcome personal fears and test their limits. However, extreme sports tend to end up with serious injuries which come up with significant medical costs and long recovery periods. So, I do not think governments should pay if people hurt themselves while practicing a dangerous sport. This essay will discuss the reasons why people are attracted to extreme sports and who should be responsible for covering the costs of injuries.
Firstly, many people choose to practice dangerous sports because they are addicted to it. Moreover, it brings back joyful memories and stimulates the production of adrenaline, which is a source of satisfaction for them. Additionally, these sports give people a sense of achievement and help them face their fears. For example, Valery Chkalov was one of the famous test pilots in the 20th century. He was born in USSR and became one of the famous test pilots from that era in the Soviet Union. Moreover, he became a hero after performing a dangerous nonstop flight from Moscow to Vancouver. Tragically he died at just 34 years old due to all the risks of flying procedures.
Secondly, while some believe that the government should be responsible for paying for the injuries of people, I believe that it should be their personal responsibility. Also, if someone decides to practice skydiving or rock climbing and they are not careful, they should be the ones who pay for the medical costs. For instance, one of my relatives used to go to rock climbing in Dolomiti Mountains. One time he wasn’t focused on what he was doing and just in a few seconds, he fell and broke his leg. He paid all his medical costs and after that incident he has never practiced this activity again.
In conclusion, practicing a sport that puts your life in danger, should not be done by everyone, but only by those who are trained to do extreme sports.
