Many people today find that the cost of attaining a University-level education is extremely high for the students and their families. What are the causes of this situation, and how can governments, Universities and the students themselves overcome the problem?
Nowadays, some students and their families cannot afford to access University-level education because of higher cost. While various causes are responsible for this situation, certain measurements could be taken by governments, universities and students themselves to overcome the problem.
There are several causes which lead to this situation, one of which is that changes of teaching and learning style in the universities. In the old days, students need only physical books for their study. However, students today have to use expensive learning tools such as laptop and tablets which make the poor students challenging to purchase them. Another way forward is that some universities cannot provide school accommodations to all students. As a result, students have to rent the private accommodation with higher prices and there will be extra transportation cost to commute daily. For instance, in my country, Myanmar, most of universities are located outside of the cities which cause the students to commute longer routes daily and have to spend more money on transportation.
On the other hand, various measurements could be given in order to mitigate this situation. To begin with, governments should fund more on education and should provide the necessaries more such as learning equipment to universities so that students do not need to buy themselves. Moreover, the universities should give more scholarships to students in order that students can focus more on education without worrying the expense. The final solution is that students should do part-time jobs in their free time to cover some of the expense. As a consequence, students not only can support themselves but also can reduce the burden on their families.
In conclusion, various causes such as high cost of learning tools and high transportation and accommodation fees have contributed to this situation. However, this situation could be assorted by supporting students with learning gadgets and giving more scholarships to students. Given this situation, it is imperative that students should do part-time jobs in their free time to support themselves.
