In this fast-paced era, the increasing usage of digital platforms has raised concern among people about whether its benefits overcome its drawbacks. From my belief, while it is certain that overdependence on such applications may result in unwanted consequences, I am convinced that this trend does more good than harm.
Admittedly, spending excessive time on social media can lead to detrimental effects in the long run. Chief among the disadvantages is that social networks separates individuals rather than bonding them in reality. These platforms, in most studies, have been proven to be highly addictive, causing mindless, endless scrolling. Despite its round-the-clock convenience, consistently using online platform could hinder face-to-face interactions among human, gradually creating a sense of isolation, making individuals emotionally detached and hard to build meaningful relationships in the real world. Furthermore, online platforms may deceive what people perceive and believe. Beyond official news, users may often come across false or unverified informations, thus inadvertently spreading misunderstandings and panic among virtual community as a whole. In this light, if not managed thoroughly, not only can online media cause harmful influence to individuals, but also contribute to paralyzing the public.
Nevertheless, the adoption of social networks can yield various benefits. First and foremost, digital platforms contribute largely to the productivity of global employment, outliving geographical barriers. Given the growing demand for global integration, such applications allow people to bridge physical distances, helping co-workers communicate and work all over the world while maintaining the quality and efficiency. Additionally, such a convenience saves employees a considerable amount of time. as advanced applications now enable people to work from home, particularly optimizing supports for those in remote areas and individuals with transportation limits. Secondly, social networks are synonymous with self-education, permitting individuals to develop their desired skills independently. A prime example of this is the ubiquity of tutoring videos on virtual platforms, which offer users practical, detailed lessons and tips to operate most activities within a click. In this context, as this trend develop, social media not only serve as a means of transport that connect human with one another, but also become a hand-held library, becoming an open sources for self improvement and benefit the society as a whole.
In conclusion, while there is potential risks occur when the internet consumption is not managed properly, the beneficial outcomes of social media cannot be underestimated. In my viewpoint, I believe that the advantages that such platforms offer outweigh their underlying hazards; an approach to balance the time consumption of social media and real life, while maximally make use of the advancement would create a more comprehensively developed society.
