In this day and age, a great number of individuals prioritize working for long hours without breaks, causing them to have little time for entertainment activities. From my point of view, this lifestyle has more drawbacks than benefits for the following reasons.
To begin with, overwork can lead to numerous health issues, both mental and physical ones. When dedicated to work for a prolonged period of time, people are not left with much time to take part in leisure activities such as playing sports or going to the gym. Thus, this can result in exhaustion, burnout, and even depression in the long term, as they do not have spare time for relaxation and entertainment. Additionally, working overtime can have a negative effect on social life. Spare time gives people the opportunity to engage in leisure activities, which are essential for people to develop and enhance their relationships with other people. Being occupied with work, people unintentionally distance themselves from their families and friends, spend less time communicating with their close ones; therefore, their connections with other people become increasingly weaker. While working continuously for a long time has a lot of disadvantages, however, there is an advantage to it. As people put a lot of time and effort into their work, skills and understanding of their job would be improved. This can provide them with an advantage over their colleagues in the chance of getting a promotion.
To sum up, even though overwork has some positive impacts on people’s job prospects, it is undeniable that such a lifestyle has several drawbacks as it worsens both their health and social relationships
