In recent years, international pop and movie celebrities have gained greater popularity compared to historic figures of their country. In this essay, I am going to lay out underlying factors contributing to this trend and propose appropriate solutions to earn back the fame that national famous people deserve.
One primary cause of the above-mentioned issue is the rise of social media. Young people’s constant exposure to movies and music on the internet on a daily basis greatly contribute to the surge in international celebrities’ popularity. Through various social media sites such as Facebook, Youtube, Tiktok, we have been bombarded with overwhelming appearance of international pop and movie stars frequently.
Another possible reason could be that movies and music are much more appealing to young people compared to content related to historic people. This is because entertainment is often the top priority of the youth during their pastime. They could spend countless hours listening to their favourite catchy songs or enjoying intriguing movies on Netflix without getting bored.
Several measures could be implemented to raise young people’s awareness of their nation’s famous people. Firstly, movies or lengthy series portraying the life of historic figures could be produced and broadcast on popular online channels. Stories told on the big screen are easier to gather attention than ones in paper version. Secondly, series of comic have proven to be an effective approach to tackle this issue. In Vietnam, the “Than Dong Dat Viet” series portraying stories of famous people in Vietnam used to be widely popular among young people. Through this series, a huge number of youngsters got to learn more about historic people who contributed significantly to the development of their country.
In conclusion, the growing influence of social media accounts is the key reason why many youngsters are more interested in international celebrities than in their own national heroes. To tackle this issue, governments and media should promote historical figures through modern platforms such as films, documentaries, or social media. By doing so, young generations can develop a deeper connection with their country’s past and learn to appreciate the people who shaped it.
