In recent times, social media has made people think that they have to portray the best version of themselves online. This is the reason some people go the extra mile and visit places trending on Instagram to get their photoshoots done. In my opinion this trend is an absolute waste of time.
Digital fever has made people believe that if they are not going to the new coffee shop they are missing out. This urge arises from the human need to impress others. Even if people are not doing great things in their lives, such actions satisfy their egos and keep them busy. There is this perception that whatever you are able to sell to the world, you might fool yourself into believing as well. So, if you are able to convince your Instagram family that you have the best life one can live, it might take away a feeling of not being good enough that might arise otherwise.
People are more focused on how they look and how good their social media profiles are than worrying about who they really are underneath. This drives people away from things that actually matter like being a kinder person or contributing to finding renewable sources of energy. You would never know the ideas you can bring to the table if you spend whole of your life dressing up and visiting cafes. For example, many of the lifestyle bloggers we see are just earning money by dressing up, going to newly opened restaurants and giving off fake reviews. It might be good for them, but it encourages the general public to do so and wastes their potential in the long run.
In conclusion, it is our social responsibility to contribute in order to make the world a better place to live. Our future generations depend on us and we should understand that we are here to achieve great things not just sit in a cafe and post pictures.
