Nowadays, most individuals visit famous locations merely to take symbolic pictures, ignoring the influence and value of the area itself. Although there might be some reasons for this tendency, I firmly believe the trend is not generally positive, and social communities should create a new wave to change this growing trend.
The primary reason why this is happening might be social media which encourages most people enthusiastically to show off certain parts of their lives online every short time to increase their followers. Resultantly, famous and prominent areas are likely reasonable options to be captured and cast together with a personal image making it more effective and influential. Lack of time is assumably another reason why taking such photos is usually prioritized over enjoying the scenery. For instance, when someone travels to another place on business they merely stop and instantly take a memorandum picture with a city landmark and immediately share it through Facebook or Instagram.
Nevertheless, I believe every well-known space has its own value and specific history which visitors should review thoroughly. By doing so, there would be some concurrent benefits for visitors and local individuals and for society as a whole. Firstly, it would improve the mindset and general overview of the visitor by going deep into a part of the area’s history, and secondly, it would support the tourism industry including local employees, shops, hotels, restaurants, and other accommodation facilities by having more audiences visiting such places.
To conclude, every venue and prominent location has its own respect and inspiring soul. Accordingly, people should appreciate them and avoid merely self-photographing. Resultantly, in my opinion, taking selfies at well-known places should be likely considered a negative trend unless local cultures and history are respected.
