Positive And Negative

Band 9: More and more people nowadays visit well-known places to take photographs of themselves, without looking at the place. Why do you think this is happening? Is it a positive or a negative trend?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Currently, more and more people travel to popular places to take photographs of themselves rather than appreciating the venue. This trend results in people focusing more on uploading photos to social media platforms and seeking validation and attention from others. I believe this is a negative trend.

Advanced technology and digitalization are encouraging people to prioritize digital experiences over physical activities. One major reason is that people spend a significant amount of time on digital devices and social media applications. They become addicted to these platforms and seek joy from the attention they receive online. Additionally, high-quality images of famous locations are readily available on the internet, often looking nearly identical to the real thing. This influences people to visit these places primarily to compare them with the online images and to showcase their travel experiences to others.

I believe this shift has several negative consequences. Firstly, people do not gain a deep understanding of the places they visit. Traveling offers opportunities to learn about cultural differences and local behaviors, but focusing on taking selfies rather than exploring the location limits this learning. Furthermore, this trend can lead to issues in communication, adaptability, and mental health. Engaging with the environment and experiencing nature can enhance both physical and mental well-being. Social interactions during travel can also improve communication skills and overall well-being. However, a lack of such experiences can contribute to societal problems.

In conclusion, the increasing popularity of digitalization and social media platforms causes people to focus more on taking pictures of themselves. In my view, this is a negative trend that can lead to a lack of general knowledge and social well-being. Therefore, while it is fine to take photos during travel, it is also important to learn about and appreciate the culture and environment of the places we visit.
