Band 5+: More parents are choosing to give their children smartphones at an early age. Why is this happening? Is this a positive or negative development?

A number of parents are selecting to give smartphones to their children at their early age. While there are several reasons why this is happening , I think that it is fully a negative development.

It is essential to consider several causes which make parents do this .One major reason is that parents want to be far from children’s hassle. When children cry or make a hassle, parents would like to make them calm. As a result, it can force them give smartphone to their children. Children can watch short videos or clips, which are attractive. So, it would hold their attention, settling them down. Another possible reason is that parents want children to learn new language. According to the studies, many scientists say that if children watch videos or movies in foreign languages at early age , they are capable of learning new languages faster, compared to other people.

In my opinion, I believe that it is a negative perspective. First main disadvantage is a less attention span. As children get used to watching short videos or clips in a few seconds, they may lose the ability to focus on longer information, which are essential for children’s brain. Another issue is that it can weaken children’s health. As children rise , children’s eyes keep developing until they grow as an adult . So, their eyes are weaker sensitive to flash light at early age. Because of this , if they spend a lot of time by using phone, their eyes may be damaged.

In conclusion, this trend is mainly caused by desires to make children calm or learning new languages, I believe that it is a negative development , revealing less attention span and eye problem.
