Nowadays, more applicants are choosing to pursue higher education abroad instead of in their own country. Although this tendency offers better opportunities, people can have many adaptation problems.
One significant advantage of studying abroad is better quality of education. Many students prefer to study in an elite university in another country, because it has more comprehensive and structured program. Furthermore, gaining international experience and adapting to an unfamiliar environment develops personal independence, which is essential for an adult life. Students have to manage their finances, organise their daily routines and solve problems without relying on their families. These skills can be particularly valuable when they enter the labour market. Finally, living abroad and learning about different cultures broaden students’ horizons.
Despite these benefits, studying abroad has several drawbacks. First of all, living in another country can have higher accommodation prices and incur additional expenses. For example in Japan taxi and public transport is much more expensive than in China or Russia, therefore if somebody cannot afford housing near their university, they may have to spend much more money on getting to it. The other problems are language barriers and adaptation to a new environment. No doubt that overcoming these difficulties makes people stronger, but not everyone has a fairly stable mental state, therefore it can be a huge stress for some of them.
In conclusion, studying abroad can significantly improve your qualification, but to achieve a goal, one must make sacrifices, therefore students can face many adaptation and financial problems. I believe that advantages outweigh disadvantages, because international diploma can improve their career prospects.
