There is an ongoing debate over the significance of the arts in society. The essay will discuss why the arts still play a crucial role in today’s lifestyles and why they ought to be taught in schools.
With regard to the first question, one of the compelling reasons why arts such as music, a play, and art are still important for individuals is that they form a spiritual and cultural consciousness. The arts create base principles about morals and ethics among citizens, thus encouraging them to be kinder, more hospitable, and more respectful to others. This is particularly important in modern lifestyles, when people are attracted by the influence of social media, whose purpose is generating income rather than being beneficial to the growing generation. To illustrate, whereas social media, like Tiktok, creates meaningless content to earn money, plays in theatres, for example, teach teenagers and young adults how to behave properly in society and distinguish prohibited behaviour from normal by comparing various characters. Therefore, the arts have an indispensable impact on society.
Turning to the second question, it is undeniable that the arts should be included on the school curriculum because with them school’s education will provide more comprehensive knowledge. Not only will school curriculum give theoretical knowledge in scientific subjects, but also will educate students creativity. This is because while STEM subjects such as mathematics or physics enhance analytical and logical abilities, the arts teach learners to think outside the box and find unconventional ways of solution. Consequently, this comprehensive education promotes students’ cognitive abilities and neuroplasticity improving their overall performance.
In conclusion, although some people claim that the arts have lost their importance in the contemporary world, I truly believe that they teach people about the basic ideas of humanity and can be implemented in secondary education effectively with plenty of merits for learners.
