Large families have started living as smaller nuclear families majorly due to work reasons in big cities. As the number of people in a certain region increases, there is an immediate demand for real-estate. This essay states some reasons that led to this growth and indicates my advice to solve this problem.
Expansion of big towns needed space and hence, construction of houses took place on border lands without proper layout planning. Since the outskirts usually do not have a proper waste management system, the presence of homes increased the issue of improper waste disposal. Sewage clogs and incorrect methods of recycling lead to breeding of disease-causing insects and microbes that contaminate the environment around these places and drop the health status of the individuals living there.
Also, the increase in tech parks paved way to exponential vehicle purchases. Driving these are producing large number of harmful emissions that lead to impure air quality and thus, decrease the life-standards. The 2023 pollution index showed an 80% reduction in air quality in major cities as compared to its predecessor year.
This problem can be tackled by developing properly planned areas. Construction companies and government agencies should have strict measures in place for correct designing and implementation of newly formed localities. Another way is by improving the existing public transport systems and making them well-connected so that fewer people drive to work. These steps will ensure that waste management and societal well-being improve along with the growth of cities.
To summarize, the size of big towns would never come down but rather only become bigger. Efficient building procedures and good transportation would have lesser detrimental effects on overpopulation and pollution.
