In the era of interconnectedness, it has given rise to a globalized world. With the increase of globalization, there has been a constant debate on whether it is a negative or positive development. In my opinion, globalization has both pros and cons that need to be considered.
Globalization has become a significant part of every human’s life, allowing them to connect and share information with the world. Furthermore, it directly benefits the country’s economy through open trade, which is considered one of the optimistic developments so far. For instance, everyone with a mobile and access to the internet can purchase and sell products and services across the globe, reducing the boundary issues between countries. To add on, the innovation of information and technology accelerated the diffusion of new technologies across borders, making the new gadgets accessible in different countries.
On the contrary, the proponents believe that it also leads to negative development, like the job market and cultural homogenization. Due to globalization, the local culture is exposed to the threat of extinction. As a result, Western culture has been widely in trend, neglecting the values and sacredness of the local cultures and values, ultimately leading to the homogenization of cultures across the world. For example, in Nepal, many local languages that are not spoken are becoming extinct, due to the pervasiveness of English, for communicating with tourists. Since it has many drawback that needs to be reviewed by both high-level legal bodies as well as local residents for the existence of the unique cultures.
In conclusion, globalization has led to positive development, leading the world to be one home. Whilst its drawbacks are the consequences of its setback. In my opinion, there should be a striking balance between the benefits and drawbacks to take the best advantage of it.
