Most people have forgotten the meaning behind traditional or religious festivals and during festival periods, people nowadays only want to enjoy themselves. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
Some think that nowadays most people go to festivals for their own enjoyment and not for traditional or spiritual reasons. I agree with this opinion to some extent.
On one hand, modern festivals are mostly dedicated to music, parties and just having fun without the responsibilities of adult life. The majority of people that go there do so for their own enjoyment. This is not an obligation to something other than yourself. Furthermore, nobody should or can force something onto a person, they have a right to do anything with their life (within the legal limits of the country), so if a person decides to spend their time at a festival having fun, they definitely can. Also these “new” festivals are about a lot of hobbies. There are movie, music, video game, medieval role-playing and a lot more types of festivals. They are used as a means to find new friends that are interested in similar topics, to show your art or meet celebrities that usually make appearances there.
On the other hand, people still do go to festivals with a deeper meaning, be it religious or not. There is a whole subculture around yoga festivals and even maybe christian festivals. People definitely didn’t forget about these festivals, but they are out of the spotlight. And, again, if anyone wants to go to those events, they can. There are certain reasons why people don’t, such as that religion isn’t taken as seriously by young people*. This means that a lot of teens cant find new friends there because usually people that young don’t come to these “boring” events.
In conclusion, I think it’s somewhat true that religious festivals have slightly faded into obscurity in the modern times. I believe that people should branch out, go to local festivals with an interesting topic and find new people to talk to.
