It is believed that museums and art exhibitions should pay attention to display local cultures or artworks rather than the global ones. Although it can be clear that indigenous culture and works of art galleries might have some advantages for society to a spectacular extent, I think that these positive impacts are overshadowed by several severe influences on the general public.
On the one hand, the decision to put mainly local works on display can bring numerous benefits. Firstly, witnessing indigenous culture and art probably allow visitors to gain a deeper insight into the local historical value and cultural heritage, so that there is the promotion of national pride and patriotism in the citizens of that country. For example, through Vietnamese artworks and historical materials, the visitors are brought back to the past so as to appreciate how intolerable and challenging former generations devoted themselves to recover the freedom and independence for this country. This can instill a deep patriotism and a great gratitude. As a result, showing off the native works is able to promote a sense of grace and pride among people. Not only that, that also likely be a great way to serve the cultural and historical education for students in museums and art institutions.
On the other hand, I believe that the downsides of concentration on local works in museums and art exhibitions outweigh its benefits. The main drawbacks is that it possibly limits the multifaceted knowledge to the community. The brief explanation for this is that people may not have any chances to be exposed to a whole range of diverse international masterpieces and cultural values since those are not generally displayed in museums and art institutions. Consequently, it is challenging for those who wish to broaden their horizons. Besides, the illustration of a number of works of art from many other countries probably help some individuals get more information about critical international issues that many countries face together. For instance, the War Remnants Museums in Vietnam has a huge number of collections from across the country and globe in order to illustrate the thoughts and feelings on poverty, war and trade. Therefore, visitors potentially deeply felt more real and informed about such issues through relic items from the museum than the news.
In conclusion, though there are some benefits of exhibiting the indigenous culture and masterpieces, I still agree that this can trigger a more severe impact on the society. I think the museums and art galleries should strike a balance between the local artworks and the international objects of art.
