There exists an initiative that art repositories and historical museums should focus on works that depict the historical events and art works in their own nation in spite of showcasing works from distant places. I firmly disagree with this idea because I think both have equal significance.
On the one hand, directing attention to works that show the history and culture in their own nation bring numerous merits. To begin with, exhibit venues displacing a wide range of the country’s historical artifacts, traditions and artistic achievements would raise public’s awareness about the glory of history for the later generations. Therefore, they might have a deeper understanding about the sacrifice and difficulties of the previous generations, enhancing a sense of identity and pride among the citizens. In addition, showing art and historical works makes an outstanding contribution to preservation of cultural heritages. Establishing museums and art galleries with the aim of displaying works would expand their culture to global regions.
On the other hand, art showrooms and museums showcasing works of other parts of the world play an imperative role in human civilization. First and foremost, this would broaden citizen’s horizons of different cultures. In the other words, inhabitants could be exposed to a variety of historical artifacts, artistic achievements or historical knowledge and values, fostering empathy and tolerance between other nations in the world. Furthermore, historical and art institutions display cultural works from separate countries contributing to boost global integration in almost all fields such as economy, culture, education and so on. Exchanging historical works, artistic achievements serve as a form of cultural diplomacy, strengthening ties between countries and promoting mutual respect and understanding thereby the residents would have access to various cultural and traditional sources, the historical periods of time of nations, respect for and share conservation efforts.
In conclusion, I am of the opinion that museums and art repositories should showcase the country’s historical artifacts and artistic works and works from other parts of the world. Both bring a host of beneficial aspects for human civilization about education, economy, preservation of rich legacy, etc.
