It is irrefutable that newspapers and television are great sources. However, the editors play an important role in making decision about broadcasting the news. Nowadays bad news gets more views than good news due to public interest and the way of presenting. In my opinion, there is a factor which affect publisher’s decision.
The primarily reason which influence the decision of the editor is trendy and popularity. When a new editor aspires to broadcast society issue of the public to raise awareness that could become viral in the social media platforms overnight. For example, in news related to society, people usually compare their case with the one in the news. Therefore, it is unlikely to be true. Moreover, People can study this case to understand how the recurring case has led to the projection of future risk.
Secondly, there is no doubt that nowadays bad news is more acceptable as compared to the good news. To illustrate, stories related to crime and personal scandals are gaining more publicity rather than news of economic growth of the nation and success stories. The main reason behind it is that people are always interesting in watching such kinds of incidents and the media also play bad news more frequently than good new to get viewers on their channel which can significantly affect their profit.
To conclude, public interest is main the factor which influences the editor during the time of broadcasting. But according to my view, it is essential that does not change the real news for gaining profit over popularity.
