It is a known phenomenon that newspapers shape individuals’ opinion about many things. I believe that it is mainly because of the accessability of this specific source of information. However, I think that it is a negative development due to the fact that governments could influence on what will be written in them.
One of the main reasons why newspapers have a significant effect on people’s ideas is that they are widespread. Reading newspapers has always been popular among the general public. What makes these papers especially easy to get is their price. The authorities in numerous countries made them extremely cheap on purpose, which led to its viral spreading among citizens. For instance, in Germany, during the World War II, there were a multitude of bookstores that gave newspapers for free, by the mandate of the government. Consequently, the majority of residents hold the belief that Adolf Hitler was ruling their country properly.
I believe that the strong influence that newspapers have on people’s opininon is negative development since history may repeat itself. It is important for citizens to know what is happening in the world. However, indivuduals are misinformated about the current policital situation within the country if the authorities control what is written in newspapers. Thus, I advocate for different sources of information in order to shape one’s opinion. For example, in Singapore, there is no longer any newspapers that ordinary people may buy. Instead of reading newspapers, citizens of Singapore watch different YouTube videos, read books, and find out about the major news independently.
In conclusion, I believe that while newspapers are easily accessible and widespread, the influence that they have on people’s views is a negative development.
