Band 7+: Nowadays advertising aimed at children is on the rise. Some people think this has negative effects and should be controlled. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

There has been an ongoing debate about children-targeted advertising, with some arguing that this has adverse impacts and ought to be controlled. Personally, I’m inclined to assent to this viewpoint.

On the one hand, it is true that the advertising vividly exhibits and promotes products with animation effects and creative design, which allows parents to have more choices to satisfy their children’s needs in terms of dietary, entertainment, and intellectual development. For instance, some advertisements for healthy children’s food often display the essential nutrition that kids require, thereby appealing to parents to make purchases. This contributes to a child’s healthy growth and development. Moreover, some public service advertisements are educational, promoting healthy eating and correct values. Compared with lectures and guidance from teachers and parents, children are more receptive to making an impression and more willing to accept what is advertised.

On the other hand, however, I believe that advertising targeted at children has a detrimental effect on them. Children usually lack judgment, making them more easily attracted by the products in advertisements. Subsequently, they may persuade their parents to purchase these items for them, which can lead to financial strain on their parents, as many children’s products are costly. Furthermore, when some children do not have a certain product while others do, the self-esteem of those without the product may be impacted. Over time, this could lead to a lack of confidence and social pressure.

For example, advertisements for a children’s smartwatch are widely disseminated in China, many parents equip their children with this device. However, some family financially difficult to afford such products, and as a result, their children may be excluded or mocked by their peers.

In conclusion, while some people consider that advertisements aimed at kids have certain benefits for both parents and children, I hold the view that the adverse effects of these advertisements can not be overlooked.

For an overall growth of a child, involvement of parents is very necessary in their life. While some parents pay a minimal attention to their kids, whereas others are obsessed and put a lot of stress to them to achieve certain things. Both of these situations can negatively impact children. This essay will express the […]
