In the light of soaring drugs and medical treatments that include animal-testing experiments, while some people claim that the governments should ban these research because of ethical problems, others are in favor of them due to the significant benefits to humanity. Although I tend toward the viewpoint that animal testing plays an important role in the development of medicines, I have to resist it as morally wrong.
It is understandable why some scientists nowadays still use non-human experiments to develop new medicines. The primary rationale is that humans seem to be the most important creatures in the world. That is the reason why we need to do anything in order to protect and maintain their lives. Animal testing used by scientists is the experiment that not only has the function of testing new drugs before they are given to humans but also could aid the researchers in investigating treatments for human diseases, thereby this drugs could guarantee the safety of human beings. Moreover, with a short life cycle, animal models can be studied throughout the whole life span which is the principle of many medical advances.
While the benefits of non-human experiments can not be irrefutable, I would side with the opponents of this idea as the advantages to humans do not justify the suffering caused to animals. It is morally wrong when it robs the animals’ lives. Furthermore, the differences in physiology, genetics, and cell structures between animals and humans may act as a precursor to the death of humanity since there are many cases where some drugs that appear safe and effective in animal studies fail when given to humans. Many potential drugs and medical treatments for asthma disease, for example, have been created and tested on animals but only a few of these have proved to work. In addition, these studies not only delay medical progress but also have adverse impacts on the safety and health of the volunteers in clinical trials. So instead of using animals for testing, in the era of modernization, many technologies can be used for the same purpose. Nowadays, some businesses, Cocoon-a Viet Nam clinic brand, for instance, torch by creating cruelty-free products that are not tested on animals.
In conclusion, while the merits of animal testing may not be irrefutable, I would contend that the government needs to release regulations to prevent this kind of experiment.
