As animal experiments are rising as a trend for medicines improvements, some argue that such experiments such be banned due to moral reasons, while some believe that it should be continue because of certain benefits. This essay will discuss both point of views, and explain reasons why the writer agree to the former standpoint.
As medicines are developing, new techniques and methods are needed to test the effectiveness of the new developed medicines; thus, some researchers choose animals as the subject before applying it to humans. This method may be beneficial because it minimizing the chance of failure in human. When a new medicine is created, it does not resulted into its fix substance and therefore it needs to be tested. If the test is conducting on human, there is a chance of the person as the subject to may suffer or develop a health risk due to the inbalance substance from the medicine. Therefore, testing the medicines on animals is viewed as an option for the researchers.
However, I would argue that this method is not always effective and may likely harm the animals that have been tested as the subject. Animals have different anatomy than human, their body also develop different response than human, and therefore animals testing may not always be the best method on testing medicines for humans. Another thing to be consider is the harms for the animals, for example, medicines for skin are often tested on rats which then resulted into their skin becomes irritated and even peeled off. Another example is the medicines for treating alzheimer patient which also tested on rats due to their short memory problem just like humans with alzheimer, which also resulted into harming the rats and even death. This trend may harm the living environment as a whole, because as the new medicines are keep developing, means more animals to be tested and getting harm, which at the end may resulting into an imbalance state in our ecological environment. Not only for the environment mean, it is also morally wrong to damage another living creature for the purpose of human only as it is portraying our irresponsibility.
In conclusion, while animal testing may bring some benefit such as minimizing the harm for humans, the demerits that it brings are bigger than the merits. Therefore, researchers should find an alternative way on testing a new developed medicines without harming any living creature.
