While some argue that it is against conscience to harm animals for experiments or safety testing, others contend that it brings a lot of advantages to humanity. Both views have valid arguments, but I personally lean towards the latter.
On the one hand, there are indeed compelling reasons why animal experiments are immoral and must be abolished. Primarily, practices of killing innocent animals are inhumane. Annually, there are millions of creatures are killed to serve scientific research, besides some other reasons such as food production, and skin gathering. They have to suffer extreme pain in the body, as well as not allowed to feed. In the long run, it could exacerbate the natural habitat, and drive animals to the verge of extinction. Additionally, the squandering of the budget for animal experiments is also a persistent issue. Research facilities devote a large budget to hunting down, and caring for animals so unchecked financial management could be a burden to many governments.
On the other hand, despite the aforementioned drawbacks, proponents might claim that it is necessary to sacrifice animals for the survival of humans. One argument put forth is that researchers need animals to test the effectiveness of newly developed drugs or vaccines instead of experimenting on humans, which is regarded to be more inhumane. For instance, during the COVID-19 pandemic, and certainly, some kind of vaccines like AstraZeneca or Pfizer had the ultimate efficiency of protecting from the virus thanks to a wide range of animal experimentation to produce satisfactory outcomes. Furthermore, it is not easy to find alternative objects, which wastes a lot of time and money, so animal experiment is the best choice.
In conclusion, while skeptics still object to this method, it seems to me that I advocate continuing to use animals for experimental purposes due to its high effectiveness and financial savings.
