Band 8+: "Nowadays, children are being given a great deal of freedom by their parents." To what extent do you agree or disagree with this view?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Recently, some people have expressed the opinion that younger generations, particularly children, are not as restricted as they should be. I strongly agree with this perspective because parents, who are meant to monitor and guide their children’s behavior, are often perpetually busy and inattentive. They often provide their children with technological devices such as iPads and smartphones, which grant them excessive freedom without proper oversight.

Parents, who are supposed to be gatekeepers, mentors, and guardians, are increasingly consumed by their careers and business pursuits. As a result, they become inattentive and neglectful of their children’s holistic development and moral upbringing. For example, many parents around the world focus solely on providing for their families, spending long hours away from home, without checking in on the children they work so hard to support. Consequently, children who do not receive adequate attention and monitoring tend to engage in excessive and unregulated activities.

Moreover, some parents choose to give their children unrestricted and uncensored access to technological devices as a means of keeping them entertained and distracting them from their curiosity. Many parents globally opt to provide their children with tablets and phones to keep them occupied; however, this can lead to premature exposure to inappropriate content online, which is detrimental to their development.

In conclusion, I strongly agree with those who argue that children enjoy too much freedom. I share this view because parents, who should be helping to curb excesses, are often too busy with their careers and business advancements. As a result, they give their children unmonitored and uncensored technological devices that can expose them to extreme forms of liberty.
