It is often argued that modern minors are freer than the previous generation. Others, however, assume that parents time to time may be over-protective to their offspring. While these views have some merit, I agree only with the second opinion.
One important reason why I agree with the second view is the information revolution. Even 30 years ago humanity didn’t have the widespread Internet and cell phones. Respectively, connection’s arsenal was limited by fixed communication. For instance, modern parents can call or write their children unlimited times per day with the main goal – to be sure that they are safe and sound. Nevertheless, the millennial and the boomer generation without modern devices had relied only on clocks and strictly punished guilty children.
However, according to the same reason, minors, back then, had much more freedom than now. The upbringing and socialization were occurred primarily at school and out of doors. Possibly, all the children’s activities were outside. For example, when I was an infant my mom had never known my location; she hadn’t looked for me, and had trusted me the keys from our apartment. I was brought up in the single-parent household and my mother simply didn’t have enough time for overprotection, because of her work. Never was I the freest than those days.
In conclusion, in spite of the fact that parents in the modern world are becoming more and more anxious, I hope that the current and the next generations will be able to preserve their mental stability and will not mirror those upbringing patterns to their own children.
