People have different views about whether teacher should be evaluated or criticized by their students or it will create negative impacts on our society. While there are some downsides of evaluating or criticizing teachers by their students, I believe it plays crucial role to develop our educational sector and society.
There are a lot of reasons why I believe teachers performance should be evaluated or criticized by their students. One main reason is that it enhances teaching performance of the teachers as they are always accountable to their students. They can understand whether their lessons, way of teaching is effective enough for their students or they have to implement new tactics and procedure to make their lessons more effective. Moreover, students also suggest new teaching techniques to their teacher which help them to understand what exactly their students are looking for. Another reason is that it makes teachers more responsible and discipline in their professional life because they always have the fear that any of their irresponsible action may reflect negatively in a student’s evaluation report. Additionally, evaluation and criticism strengthen the bonding between students and teachers. It improves their mutual understanding and also creates a friendly environment in the classroom.
Despite the above statements, it cannot be denied that evaluation or criticism could affect badly in a teacher’s career and also increase disrespects in a society. Firstly, students may use their power of evaluation or criticism in a negative way. For example, a student may make wrong statements for the teacher who is quite strict in terms of giving grades although the teacher is very good in terms of teaching. As a result, it may create negative impacts in the teacher’s career. Finally, Evaluating or criticizing can increase disrespects in a society. When a student can freely criticize their teachers, it will make their habit to criticize anyone in a society which will make them unsocial and disrespectful towards their parent and friends.
In conclusion, although evaluation or criticizing has some bad impacts in a teacher’s career and our society, I would argue it is a good initiative to enhance a teacher’s teaching skills, professional responsibility and strong bonding between teaches and students.
