For some people, shopping become a leisure activity instead of something that needs to be done for daily necessity. I believe this activity could lead to several issues like regrets of buying unnecessary stuff, and obviously waste of money. Instead, the money can be spent on daily needs rather than unimportant things just to satisfy the eyes.
Shopping may be a solution for some people to gain happiness, but this is actually a negative behaviour because this will waste people’s money. People tend to buy stuff because of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) or maybe just to satisfy their eyes. For example, I went to a mall and saw crowded people lining for a brand-new slip-on, I bought it too because I didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to be the first wearing it. When I went home and realized, I should buy my daily needs instead I spending my money on something else that I don’t really need.
In addition, buying for a temporary desire could lead to regret because spending money on an unimportant need. Furthermore, buying unnecessary stuff will fill the house and make less space for other important stuff which makes the house less comfortable and maybe look messy. Lastly, they have to live more frugally because they spend more money on shopping for pleasure. They have to cut their expenses like buying cheaper food or maybe cannot buy groceries which could lead to unhappiness.
Shopping is not the only thing people can do for pleasure because have many negative impacts. People can go to public destinations like beaches, and cinemas, or picnic with family in the park, etc. Self-control is needed because it can help to prevent people from doing something bad for themselves.
