In recent years, the remarkable advancement of digital technology has allowed individuals to produce film without the backing of large companies. From my point of view, while this has some admitted benefits, the drawbacks are far more pronounced.
On the one hand, one positive aspect of the mounting number of filmmakers is it enhances the creativity among the general public. With easier access to digital technology, people are encouraged to diversify the varieties of movie genres with intriguing contents and perspectives that some mainstream studio may overlook . However, due to the fierce competition in the field of filmmaking, many independent producers resort to stealing content and dialogue from existing movies. Such practice may hinder genuine creativity, as people tend to prefer to replicate already successful formulas rather than risk creating something new.
On the other hand, I firmly believe that this trend is predominantly negative for two main reasons. Firstly, in order to shoot a high-quality scenes , cutting-edge filming equipment such as cameras or properties are essential and these items can sometime be so prohibitively expensive, leading to financial constraints. Meanwhile, these funds could be better spent on other important household purposes such as food or commuting expenses. Moreover, it also worthy considering the time and effort investment required during editing and filming process. Many aspiring filmmakers have their day jobs and balance these two can be detrimental for mental health with associated issues such as burnout or overwhelming. This is further compounded by the little time spent for family, friends or hobby enjoyments.
In conclusion, I am convinced that the advantage is completely outweighed by the drawbacks related to financial burden and overwhelming. Therefore, the democratization of filmmaking is overall a detrimental deveopment.
