In contemporary times, there is a noticeable trend where big negator and large grocery stores are more prevalent compared to smaller shops in local areas. In this essay, I contend that this phenomenon is overall positive as the evident benefits it offers outweigh the drawbacks.
One side of the debate, this trend appears to be detrimental largely because the increase of big retail centers and supermarkets may have a negative impact on children’s spending habits. As an illustration, children who frequently visit shopping centers tend to become addicted to luxury brands like Nike, Adidas or Chanel. As a result, many of them overspend on clothes and accessories, possibly facing financial problems in the long-term. A further point to make is that the expansion of massive malls and grocery stores could distance family relationships. This is clearly evident in many urban areas in Vietnam, where children tend to spend more time in massive malls and grocery stores rather than at home. Consequently, those people have fewer interactions with their close relatives, potentially leading to a generation gap in their family which is increasingly common in contemporary society.
In spite of the mentioned advantages, I strongly believe that the upsides are more significant due to more convincing factors. Primarily, my stance is rooted in the fact that many big retail centers and supermarkets provide people a wider range of recreational options. This is particularly true for parents Vietnamese parents who often take their children to restaurants, game centers and cinema within shopping centers as a way to relax on weekends. This situation therefore improves socials lives for those citizens and makes the cities more livable. Another reason behind my belief is that new shopping centers and supermarkets offer more job opportunities in local communities. This is notable evident in Vietnam, where supermarkets and shopping malls consistently provide a substantial number of part-time of full-time jobs for young in individuals. Additionally, the increase of shopping centers and supermarkets also creates more business opportunities for local people such as organizing tours to supermarkets or opening nearby cafes and restaurants. Consequently, these situations significantly improves local people’s income and boosts economic development in the long term. In Vietnam, for instance, supermarkets and shopping malls consistently provide a substantial number of part-time or full-time jobs for young individuals.
In conclusion, despite acknowledging the potential limitations of the discussed tendency, there are overwhelming rationales to argue that it is a favorable development overall.
