Band 6+: Nowadays, many university students do part-time jobs while they are still going to school. Why? What should students do to balance their studies and their jobs?

Nowadays, many teenagers do part-time jobs while they are still going to university. In this essay, I will outline the reasons behind this trend and what students should do to balance their studies and their work.

There are two reasons why there is a trend for university students to work part-time jobs. First, they can earn more income. For example, when some students want to cover their living expenses and tuition fees, they can apply for coffee shops, convenient stores, and so on to make more money after school time. As a result, this activity may help students alleviate their financial burden and be less dependent on their parents. Second, they can gain more experience after working part-time jobs. Part-time jobs offer students opportunities to approach the real working environment, which helps students accumulate experience and soft skills, such as communication, time management and teamwork skills. Therefore, these soft skills that students gain from doing part-time jobs are key to their resume after their graduation and also elements that they can use to compete with other people to apply for jobs.

To balance studies and jobs, students can consider two suggestions. First, they should manage their time reasonably to suit for both their studies and jobs. For example, if their main class starts in the morning, they can do part-time jobs in the afternoon or at night. Thus, they can work and study more efficiently, and have more time to relax after a hard-working day. Second, they should opt for some jobs having flexible time following their class schedule. This is because in emergency circumstances, they can change their shifts with other employees to address their personal issue. Moreover, with flexible time, they can be free from the time pressure.

In conclusion, many students tend to do part-time jobs during their period of the university because it helps them earn more money and experience. In addition, they should manage their time wisely and do jobs with flexible time to balance their studies and work effectively.
