In recent times, there is an increasing trend of people opting for cosmetic surgery to enhance and alter their beauty. In my opinion, although this treatment presents several advantages, its drawbacks outweigh them significantly.
On the one hand, it is undeniable that cosmetic operations have some merits. Firstly, plastic surgery could help enhance a person’s aesthetic appeal, which can lead to increased confidence and self-esteem. This is particularly significant for transgender individuals in the LGBTQ+ community, who may choose surgeries to match their appearance with their gender identity. Secondly, cosmetic procedures could play an important role in restoring functionality and improving their quality of life. To clarify, reconstructive surgeries not only repair the body areas areas of the body affected by congenital disabilities, or accidents but also assist patients in reclaiming a sense of normalcy in their lives. It goes beyond aesthetics, playing a crucial role in recovery progress.
On the other hand, the demerits of this trend far overshadow its benefits. First and foremost, plastic surgery poses several risks to both physical and mental health This can be best exemplified by the K-POP industry, where unrealistic beauty standards drive individuals toward unnecessary surgeries. Many trainees and idols undergo cosmetic procedures at a young age to meet the needs of fans and agencies. This not only poses a threat to their well-being but also promotes harmful ideals, encouraging others to follow. Furthermore, individuals who undergo plastic surgery may face social criticism and judgment. As a result, many people either lose friends or become the topic of gossip after having cosmetic surgery, regardless of the results. This social stigma can negatively impact a person’s self-esteem and overall well-being, even if they originally feel confident after surgeries.
In conclusion, cosmetic procedures have pros and cons. However, the benefits it derives do not compensate for the fact that it brings numerous threats to many aspects. I am fully convinced that people should be cautious when approaching cosmetic operation and considering alternative treatments to improve their looks.
