It is the belief of certain individuals that public transportation should be made free, especially in large cities . Although this could cost the government more money, I strongly believe it is necessary as it would make movement easy for people as well as help salary earners manage their monthly wages.

On the one hand, free public transportation can help make movement easy for the people. When the public transport is made free, individuals no longer need to worry about money for transportation when going out. Transportation becomes stress-free for the people and movement is no longer restricted based on how much an individual has with him or her. For example; A low income earner doesn’t need to worry on how to get to work anymore as free public transportation has been made available to the individual by the government.

On the other hand, making public transportation free for people could help salary earners manage thier income. Every month, salary earners always have to worry about cost of transportation to work and it takes up a large portion of their expenses. When public transportation system is made free, salary earners are able to save up their monthly wages as they no longer need to worry about cost of transportation. This could in turn improve cost of living for the people. For example, A Teacher who earns the minimum wage in Canada is able to save more as cost of transportation has been totally slashed off his or her monthly expenses.

Free public transportation can lead to injuries caused by stampedes as everyone would want to make use of this opportunity. Although this is a major disadvantage, it could be managed properly when officials are put in place to coordinate access to the public transport. If the usage of the public transport is well regulated, such mishaps would be greatly reduced.

In conclusion, free public transportation can help make life easier for the people and as well improve savings for salary earners. With proper regulation by the government, the concerns associated with free public transportation would be handled effectively.
