There is a growing recognition that free public transportation should be offered by the government in order to solve city problems concerning pollution and traffic. The impact of this trend is a subject of intense debate. From my point of view, its downsides cannot justify its positive effect for many reasons.
On the one hand, providing free public transport could result in one harmful effect. Firstly, this trend can contribute to national financial burden. In particular, as governmental authorities spend a huge cost of money on free public vehicles, this will lead to financial burdens. For example, investing an enormous cost in buses for dwellers in large cities causes a significant issue in economic development.
On the other hand, this development brings two main advantages to society. Firstly, this may attract more citizens to travel on public transport. Particularly, as there is no need to pay for public transport service, this attracts more citizens to travel, which can contribute to protecting the environment. Furthermore, people do not need to worry about the amount of money allocated for personal transportation expenses, helping reduce personal or family’s financial worries.
In conclusion, although offering free transport to the public is disadvantageous hence the fact that it costs money, what citizens can benefit from, such as declining financial worries on personal vehicles’ expenses, which contributes positively to the environment, is further far-reaching. It is suggested that if more people were allowed to use public transportation free of charge, it would bring vital prospects for environmental protection.
