It is thought that the younger generations are becoming less interested in traditional music nowadays. I largely agree with this view, as i believe the main reasons behind this trend are the and growing influence of globalization and wide variety of music genres.
With regards to the impact that globalization holds for youngsters’ preference in music, increasing usage of social platforms is definitily one of the largest cause. In the twenty first century, when everyone uses technology and online platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok and so on, it is as quick as a light speed that new music set trends among young people. Due to it’s speed and accessibilty to every part of the world, people are enjoying international music, which everyone around the world listen to, rather than their own music that contains their heritage. For example, the majority of children around the world knows the song ‘Baby shark’. The song even has a version in a multiple other languages than just English.
Another vital cause of this trend is unquestionably the diversity of music genres. In the latest centuries, a numerous brand new genre of music has been introduced into society, namely country rock, hip-hop, lo-fi. Compared to the past that people back then didn’t even know there was different genre of music, people nowadays even have a favourite and disliked genre. As more and more instruments and technologies that make music are developing and being produced, the music will have a more genre that it already has now. Also the people will lean toward to new genres rather than sticking up to an old traditional ones.
In conclusion, I generally agree that traditional music is becoming less popular among young people, mainly because of the impact that globalization has and the growing number of different music genres.
