There is a view that unpaid work community should require young adults. The advantages of making it mandatory for young adults outweigh the disadvantages, as it can teach them work collaboratively and help them develop greater self-confidence, whereas the drawbacks include lack of motivation and time pressure.
There are many disadvantages of requiring them to do compulsory works. One potential drawback is that it places additional burden on students, causing to interfere with their studies. As a result, they might have an academic pressure, which leads them to struggle to balance their studies and community work. Mandatory participation, furthermore, lead students to participate reluctantly. They have a lack of intrinsic motivation to participate such works. Due to lack of motivation, these students can reduce the effectiveness of the programme. Nevertheless, these disadvantages are relatively minor compared with the long-term personal and social benefits.
However, I believe participating such mandatory works play a crucial role in developing their interpersonal and life skills. When young adults work with different people in unpaid works, they can learn to collaborate effectively with others. Employees in such groups can also develop a sense of responsibility as well as communication skill, as they adapt to a different environment and interact with diverse individuals. Young adults, moreover, can complete different tasks with their partners in unpaid community servers. They have a sense of achievement, which can encourage them to boost their self-confidence. Such feeling can also encourage them to become more independent. If youngsters participate constantly in such community servers, they could develop interpersonal skills.
In conclusion, although mandatory participation can have some negative impacts, such as academic pressure and a lack of motivation, I do believe that the benefits are more significant.
