Band 6+: Nowadays, more people are choosing to socialise online rather than face to face .

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In the contemporary world, thanks to development of modern technology, an increasing number of people are believed to be choosing to communicate via internet compared to meeting in person. Although, I admit that there are some positive effects of online chatting, I strongly believe it is a negative development because of some reasons such as shortage of physical activities and health problems.

On the one hand, there are some obvious positives of online communication. First of all, you can save your time and energy if you are chatting on social media. Thus, you may have more free time for your hobbies. For instance, most of students can save their leisure time by doing this, and devote more their time on education which would be beneficial for them in the long run. Moreover, we can easily communicate with our loved ones such as siblings, parents or friends by devices regardless of where we live. This is especially beneficial for who works or studies on abroad, far away from their hometown. Thus, I believe there are some benefits of this trend.

On the other hand, despite having some benefits, I still believe that two obvious negatives will emerge. One of .which, with the proliferation of modern technology, most of people are able to be in contact with their relatives while staying at home. In my opinion, this can cause lack of physical activities, leading to sedentary lifestyle. Another reason will be, if people allocate most of their time on smartphones may cause excessive screen time, which leads to some health problems including eye strain, sleep disturbance or being overweight. Considering that, the drawbacks of this trend is seeming.

In conclusion, I believe that there are some advantages of keeping in touch with each other on social media and, to me, it seems to be negative development after all, in terms of individuals’ lifestyles as well as their health issues.
