Positive And Negative

Band 7+: Nowadays, more people are choosing to socialize online rather then face to face. Is this a positive or negative development? Give reason for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In today’s world, many individuals prefer to interact on the internet and avoid meeting in person. Presently, social media are growing rapidly, and this new generation is using them in all ways. Nowadays, people often prefer to meet online rather than in person because it is an easy mode of communication with new people from anywhere in the world.

It is a positive development in terms of interacting with new individuals from anywhere at any time by means of social media. Social media have changed the way we live today by their ease of access in meeting people anywhere around the globe. The features of social media, like Instagram and WhatsApp, are making lives easier by giving users features like video calls that people can easily use to connect with their loved ones. It can help make new connections between people who have never met in person because of their long distance. It is easier to access anyone from any place by just using their name on social media. Individuals who suffer from illness and cannot go outside to meet their relatives can use social media to socialize with them.

On the other hand, it also has some negative impacts on our lives. Socializing online rather than face-to-face is destroying people’s mental and physical health by giving them a reason not to meet their loved ones in person. The interaction they have face-to-face is something they can never have by communicating online. It is true that social media are a good mode for meeting new people, but in contrast, they have some disadvantages; we can never know what is going on behind the camera. The tradition of meeting individuals in person is disappearing nowadays because of social engagement. However, in-person communication must be continued.

In conclusion, social media has both positive and negative developments around the globe. The online mode of meeting can be used for fraud and scams. While there are fewer chances of getting scammed in person-to-person interaction.
