In contemporary epoch, diversity in ethics has become a common topic in the society and it is no longer a benchmark for marriages. From my point of view, people nowadays live in the age of globalization where people can contact or explore new countries more easily than before. This essay will discuss why this is happening and also the benefits and demerits of this trend as the following.
There are several reasons why many people are marrying partners from different cultures and different customs. To begin with, nowadays people tend to marry someone of a different culture because people are no longer see a major background as a major obstacle. Moreover, these days technology makes it easy to stay in touch across borders. However, different cultures and customs are no longer important anymore compared with in the past where people tended to be conservative. This is because in the past people were strict with traditional customs, which could affect the stability of a country. For example, in Thai society in the past there were strict rules to ban a Thai woman who married a foreigner due to different traditions and culture might affect the stability and culture of a country. Undoubtedly, people tend to marry to someone from different cultures and backgrounds as the world is broaden one’s horizons.
On the other hand, the attitudinal discrepancy is another disadvantage of marrying someone of different nationality. In view of this, the different backgrounds are considered as a characteristic for each person that could be undermined in any marital journey. To illustrate, Asians who married Europeans tend to have a lack of communication. This is because many Asian cultures are high-context, people may communicate indirectly. In contrast, European people have a low context where they speak or express themselves directly especially German. Consequently, communication is considered as important to marriage life. Nevertheless, there is the advantage of people getting married to someone of different culture. Firstly, they can explore the culture and customs in order to learn new things and to see a different side of life.
In conclusion, although people tend to marry someone from a different culture and background can be stressful in the beginning, it helps people to learn a new side of life. If people marry with people from different backgrounds, they will gain valuable love life experiences.
