In this day and age, a multitude of urban dwellers reside large apartment complexes. I am of the opinion that there are certain positive and negative aspects of this form of housing.
On the one hand, it is apparent that living in high rise apartments has many merits. A positive aspect of these buildings is that they tend to be positioned in the central areas. In other words, it offers effortless access to transportation and amenities For instance, not only are inhabitants bestowed significant convenience in their daily lives through proximity to extensive shopping malls, recreational parks, and bus stations but to unimpeded access to essential services. Another salient benefit of this form of housing is security. Apartments often offer a sophisticated security system including guards , patrols and far-reaching surveillance camera systems. As a result, residents enjoy higher safety compared to other types of housing. According to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics’ 2008-2012 report on domestic crime in the U.S., the rate of home burglaries was 27.6 per 1,000 homes, while in apartment buildings it was 16.2 per 1,000 units.
However, a downside of apartment living is the noise from neighbors and nearby construction sites. Apartments are often close together, resulting in noise from neighboring units that can impact residents’ quality of life. To illustrate, sounds such as footsteps, arguments, or even commonplace activities can escalate into significant disruptions if the apartment lacks adequate soundproofing. In contrast to other forms of accommodation , living in an apartment may come with restrictions on customization or decoration. One instance that exemplifies this is apartment complexes typically enforce regulations regarding noise and activity hours to safeguard the well-being of residents. While these measures are designed to promote a harmonious living environment, they may pose challenges for individuals who value flexibility in their schedules or specific work requirements. Such restrictions can hinder the freedom to engage in activities at varied hours, making apartment living less suitable for those who prioritize autonomy in their daily routines.
In light of the above, Living in high-rise apartments offers several advantages. However, it is also essential to recognize the associated disadvantages.
