Nowadays, some parents put a great deal of pressure on their children to succeed. In my opinion, a certain level of parental pressure can be helpful because many young people lack responsibility and often neglect their studies. However, excessive pressure may lead to serious psychological problems.
On the one hand, some children, especially teenagers, are careless about their future and prefer to spend time on their phones, hanging out with friends or procrastinating instead of studying. Since modern students have many opportunities such as the internet, books and educational platforms, parents may encourage or push them to take advantage of these resources. For example, when adolescents think life is only about parties, social media and going to cafés, parents can set rules and guide them to stay focused on their goals. In this way, children do not lose their direction and learn the importance of hard work.
On the other hand, when parents are too strict, this can cause stress, anxiety and depression. Young people may try too hard just to satisfy their parents, which leads to emotional exhaustion. In some cases, students forget their own dreams and simply follow what their family wants, which prevents them from developing independence and expressing themselves confidently. As a result, excessive pressure may damage their self-esteem and mental health.
In conclusion, parents should motivate their children to work hard and achieve success, but they also need to respect their children’s opinions and support their personal goals in life.
