Band 7+: Nowadays, people are bombarded with a barrage of advertisements.Pros and cons?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In this day and age, in light of businesses’ relentless pursuit of maximizing their profits, different marketing strategies are used to attract potential customers. Therefore, people are currently bombarded with a barrage of advertisements. While this trend is not without any advantages, I suppose that its downside would be far more significant

On the one hand, it is undeniable that the role of advertisements can potentially bring some positive influences on individuals as well as society. First and foremost, people are provided with useful information which they can use to compare a wide range of products in terms of price, color, material, therefore, they can make an informed decision based on these products. Secondly, enterprises can gain huge profits from advertising sectors which they can use for various purposes such as allocating a negligible sum of their capital towards tax payment duty and becoming financially abundant to invest in other areas, leading to sustainable development. Additionally, advertisements also provide revenue for various media platforms, enabling them to impart useful information to the public. These are the perfect exemplifications for the aforementioned.

On the other hand, the downside of these advertisements shouldn’t be ignored. Firstly, the production of these advertisements requires substantial resources like paper, ink, plastic and other materials. Consequently, this consumption leads to various detrimental effects on the environment namely deforestation, water shortage or the depletion of natural resources in worst-case scenarios, therefore, efforts should be dedicated in order to mitigate the severe effects of this paradox. Secondly, there has been a rising public concerns that their information would be leaked to the third party companies, which pose a threat to their privacy as well as personal datas. Thus, governments should propose some feasible solutions to solve this problem, such as publishing rules and regulations on individual privacy as well as giving these corporations deterrence.

In conclusion, it is of paramount importance that each individual must raise their awareness about advertisements and weigh up the pros and cons carefully to exert some positive influences on society rather than negative impacts.
