In this day and age, social media platforms are widespread trend among the majority of population, as it provides instant communication and quick access to the latest news. Evidently, there are more positive sides to be considered, such as global connectivity, opportunities for educational and personal development. From my perspective, despite the clear positives it is crucial to consider the downsides of this concept.
On the one hand social communication has a lot to offer. First and foremost, through various public network tools, we can capture the moment and share it with the loved ones by messaging, photo sharing, video or voice calls, people can be in contact regardless of their geographical location. Secondly, it is a valuable educational tool that provides free access to knowledge and learning materials. Learners can use online courses and webinars, participate in academic discussions and study groups and improve their language skills. Last but not the least, social networks today also function as a source of entertainment and stress relief, contributing to people’s mental well-being.
On the other hand, this trend has serious drawbacks. One major issue is hackers who put security and privacy information at risk. Cybercriminals easily operate in social media platforms to steal personal information, hack accounts, and spread malicious software. Additionally, excessive time spent on platforms like Instagram, TikTok and Facebook can result in autism, depression and low-self-esteem due to lack of face-to-face communication. Many people also fall victim to fake links or scams, leading to data loss. Therefore, while these platforms connect people worldwide, it also exposes them to some heavy threats.
To conclude, the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. It would be a great disservice to mankind to stop utilize the profit from social media. If people will be able to limit the non-essential time on networks, most problems could be prevented.
