In the contemporary era, cuisine has been a matter of debate, with some arguing that conventional food and dietary habits are modified. In my opinion, this issue, which stems from multiple factors, yields both positive and negative outcomes.
First of all, there is a valid reason for the impact on our customary eating habits. Due to the massive influence of social media, our daily meals have been significantly diversified. In other words, technological advancements have led to the widespread dissemination of various dishes, potentially leading to a vast number of culinary technique eroding. For instance, the popularity of sushi, originally from Japan, has soared in Western countries, showcasing the global exchange of cuisine. Thus, more and more people can now engage in food coming from a wide range of cultures.
Furthermore, this phenomenon can be complementary to our lives. To be specific, the fusion culinary practices from different cultures can offer more choices of food. For example, people now are able to try dishes from every corner in the world because of recipes being available on the internet for everyone. This variety may satisfy demands and needs for food of a large number of individuals, facilitating their living conditions.
However, the issue can pose a threat to the preservation of some traditional food. In particular, as individuals tend to indulge in many unconventional dishes, the distinctive characteristics of one nation can be detrimentally diminished. For example, in Vietnam, since youngsters are considerably keen on foreign cuisine such as Korean and Japanese food, its culinary heritage such as Banh Gio and Banh Nep are expected to fade, taking a toll on the country’s unique identity. In doing so, younger generations may not have an opportunity to witness and try their gastromic delights, which potentially has an adverse influence on a nation as a whole.
In conclusion, technology is the primary cause of the transformation of traditional food and eaing habits. Consequently, while this transformation comes with some advantages such as various options for food, its drawbacks, for example, the diminishing of authentic flavors of traditional dishes cannot be outweighed
