It is true that today the traditions and customs in terms of the food we consume and the way we eat are changing. While there are different reasons why this phenomenon happens, it is actually a negative development because of consuming unhealthy food and not developing traditional cuisine.
To begin with, the first key reason for the growing traditions and customs of food consumption is globalization. In the ever-evolving society these days, people have more opportunities to be exposed regularly to diverse culinary options across the world. As a result, they progressively experiment with different cuisines and cooking styles, leading to a fusion of traditional and modern eating habits. For example, the prevalence of Korean dishes has soared in all nations in Southeast Asia regions and is favored by a lot of young people, showcasing significant impacts on daily eating habits among individuals. Furthermore, the fast-paced lifestyle is considered the second cause that contributes to these changes. With a heavy workload, busy people are likely to prioritize eating fast food and canned products due to their convenience, gradually setting conventional meals aside in their daily routines.
On the other hand, it seems to me that this trend is responsible for certain drawbacks to our lives. Favoring various kinds of new food customs can make people lose of cultural identity, in which the distinctive characteristics of the nation can be detrimentally diminished. Additionally, this phenomenon also nurtures an unhealthy lifestyle and imposes some threats on individuals’ overall well-being. To be more specific, busy people tend to consume fast food or canned food, they usually refuse conventional meals and generally suffer from hazardous diseases such as obesity, cardiovascular, or high blood pressure. Consequently, this phenomenon forms a sedentary lifestyle and has numerous health effects on our bodies in the long term.
In conclusion, because of the multiconnected global and advanced society, people have more opportunities for exposing various gastronomical delights across the world. However, some foreseeable disadvantages that this trend brings back should not be underestimated. Therefore, I advocate creating a balance between new food customs and traditional meals, aiding in fostering a healthy lifestyle and conserving our cultural identity.
