It is certainly true that the traditions and customs relating to what and how we eat are changing these days. Although there are different reasons behind this trend, it actually has a negative impact on pepole’s health and cultural identity.
To begin with, this phenomenon can be attributed to the globalization and the hustle and bustle life and work nowadays. In today’s fast-paced society, the import of foods and dishes from various countries into Vietnam has opened up opportunities for people to be regularly exposed to diverse culinary options around the world, leading to the transformation of our eating habits and cooking styles. For instance, the popularity of Korean and Japanese dishes has rocketed in Vietnam recently and been chosen by many young people as an alternative to traditional meals. Morever, the current busy life also contributes to these changes. With a heavy workload and long working hours, people often tend to hesitate about what to cook today, so they prioritize eating fast food and canned food because of its convenience.
On the other hand, it seems to me that this tendency is the cause of certain limitations on our lives. Firstly, prioritizing the use of imported dishes from abroad can be one of the factors that cause the loss of cultural identity because traditional dishes are no longer loved and appreciated by young people. Secondly, this phenomenon forms unhealthy eating habits for people as the more simple the dish is, the less nutritional diversity it has. Furthermore, the overuse of fast food like fried chicken can pose a thread to people’s well-being such as obesity, heart disease or high blood pressure. Finally, fast food and canned food also pose a risk of food hygiene and safety, leading to negative effects on consumer health.
In conclusion, due to the globalization and today’s fast-paced world, people have more opportunities to access the world’s culinary culture and diversify their diet. However, risks related to human health and cultural identity should never be taken lightly.
