Band 4+: Nowadays , there are a large number of coffeee shops and fast food vendors on high street and in town centres. Why are there so many of these outlets? What effects is this having on the society

Due to the significant impact of westernization, there has been an increase in the trend of people opting for fast foods. Although, most fast foods are unhealthy, they

seem to be much appealing to the taste buds.It is for this reason , people irrespective of age group,seem to throng over to fast food , especially during weekends.

Movies have also depicted coffee shops as a cool place to hang out. Hence , this idea has been quite contagious among the young population, who have religiously considered fast food joints and coffee shops , as their favorite spot to hang out with friends. Some of the coffee shops provide additional perks such as free wifi, offering a good ambience to study or work, while sipping their prefered choice of drink. Owing to this additional perk, coffee shop has also been considered by many

young population for having brown bag sessions, where they informally brainstorm over ideas.

Since , the fast foods mostly offer quick bites, people tend to be inclined towards them, after a tiring day of shopping. Additionally, the waiting time is usually reduced to half. Hence, they have become one of the popular choices. It is also seen that fast food joints have been constantly innovating on their product lines,

based on the current trend among the mob. For instance, many fast food joints have created combo options , by coupling briyani with their fast food snacks. In order,

to attract the students population, there are many fast food joints, which have slashed the prices moderately.

Increase in consumption of fast food , in recent times, have been linked to a number of health concerns, spanning across all age groups. Studies have shown that health concerns such as surge in obesity among people and spike in cholestrol levels , have been attributed to the trans fat , from fad diet. Recent research also shows

that numerous life syle disorder such as diabetes and PCOD among women, are also connected to the fast foods.

Owing to these health concern, doctors have suggested that it is best to limit the consumption of fast food. Also, it would be much appreciated if coffee shops and fast food joints include healthier food options in their menu, which in turn would help in building a healthier society.
