It is often believed that once students go to school, teachers have a greater influence on their intellectual and social development than parents. While I agree that teachers play an important role in education, I would also argue that parents still have a stronger overall influence.
On the one hand, teachers clearly contribute to students’ development at school. Firstly, they provide knowledge and academic skills in different subjects such as mathematics, science, and languages. Students spend many hours in class, so teachers guide them step by step in their learning process. Secondly, teachers help students develop social skills. For example, they teach children how to work in groups, follow rules, and communicate politely with others.
On the other hand, parents have a more lasting influence on their children. The first reason is that children spend their early years at home, where parents shape their basic values and behavior. Additionally, parents are role models for their children. Young people often copy the way their parents speak and act. Even after children start school, parents continue to support them emotionally and guide their important decisions.
In conclusion, while teachers play a key role in students’ academic and social life, I believe that parents have a greater influence overall because they shape children’s character from a very early age.
